Protect Your Poinsettias!

When buying poinsettias for your holiday decorating remember to protect them properly from the cold during transport outdoors!

Unfortunately, I have witnessed shoppers walking to their cars in frigid temps with poinsettias or other greenhouse grown plants not completely covered with insulating sleeves or bags. While we use evergreen boughs and Christmas trees as versatile indoor and outdoor decorations because they are native here and tolerant to cold, poinsettias are actually a tropical plant native to Mexico and Central America and resent the cold. Your local garden center grower will provide you with proper sleeves or bags to transport your poinsettia in, so make sure you use them! Also, ideally, warm up your vehicle before loading your plants and don’t leave them sitting in your car while you do other shopping. This will ensure your beautiful holiday plants will still be that way when you get them home! Happy Holidays!
